Saint Ladislaus Roman Catholic Church – Beltiug
The history of Krasznabéltek dates back to 1216, when it was first mentioned in the Regestrum of Várad under the name Beltuk. A parish likely existed here already in the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, the church changed hands between Catholics and Protestants, reflecting the turbulent history of the region. By 1722, Count Sándor Károlyi restored it to the Catholic community, and new settlers – the Swabians – arrived in the area.
As the number of faithful grew, the old church proved too small. Plans for enlargement were drawn up in 1911 by the Budapest architect Ernő Foerk. The nave was rebuilt, while the tower and sanctuary were preserved, expanding the church from 249 to 649 m², making space for up to 1,800 worshippers. The construction was completed in 1914, and the solemn consecration took place on 27 June 1919, on the feast of Saint Ladislaus.
Today, after long decades, the exterior, roof, fence with the Stations of the Cross, and the churchyard require restoration, ensuring that this sacred place remains both a spiritual center and a cultural attraction for visitors.
