Opening Event of the project “Catholic Event Tourism in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg and Satu Mare Counties” (CET ROHU-00474)
The event series began on August 16 with a bishop’s Holy Mass, celebrated by H.E. Jenő Schönberger, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Satu Mare. Representatives of the Dioceses of Nyíregyháza and Debrecen-Nyíregyháza also attended, presenting the project and welcoming nearly 130 Catholic and Greek Catholic believers from Hungary and the local community.
The opening speeches highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation, cultural heritage and faith-based tourism. The host and lead partner, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Satu Mare, introduced the project’s goals, professional challenges and overall budget.

“Silent good deeds are more precious than gold” – Saint Nicholas celebrated with a double festivity in Nyíregyháza
With a festive liturgy, community programs, and cultural reflection, participants paid tribute to the patron saint of the Diocese of Nyíregyháza in the county seat of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. The series of events, beginning on December 6 and continuing throughout the weekend, strengthened not only the preservation of religious traditions but also cross-border cooperation. The event was implemented within the framework of the Interreg VI-A Romania–Hungary Programme, under project identification number CET ROHU-00474. The patronal celebration held in Saint Nicholas Cathedral mobilized not only the local Greek Catholic community: in the spirit of cross-border unity, guests from the Dioceses of Satu Mare and Debrecen–Nyíregyháza also joined the common prayer.
